Robert Abel & Emanuel Haynes Memorial Scholars Weekend

Excavating Through the Past: Digging Through the Bible

Dr. Doron Ben-Ami
Director of the Largest Archeological Digs in Jerusalem, Israel Antiquities Authority
Lecturer at Hebrew University

We have the amazing honor of having Dr. Doron Ben-Ami, perhaps the leading archeologist in Israel at Har Shalom, for a very special Spring Scholars Weekend.

Doron Ben-Ami is the director of the largest archaeological dig in Jerusalem, located in the ancient core of Jerusalem, the City of David. Many young archaeologists from the Institute of Archaeology of the Hebrew University participate in this project.  In fact some of them are staff members in his expedition and trained under Doron's supervision.  Most probably these young archaeologists will form the next generation of Israeli leading archaeologists.

The weekend has truly special events all members and their families:

Thursday, April 8, 8pm

Jerusalem in the First Temple period - Capital of the (United) Kingdom of Israel or the Kingdom of Judah?

Friday, April 9, after Shabbat Dinner

Lecture and Discussion following Shabbat Dinner:  Between Bible and Archaeology

Saturday, April 10, Shabbat Services

D’var Torah and Discussion following Kiddush:  Between Bible and Archaeology

Saturday, April 10, Special Sponsor-only event at the Haynes home

The City of David - New excavation at Jerusalem

Sunday, April 11, 10am, Men’s Club Brunch

Hazor and the conquest of Canaan - the Biblical narrative and the archaeological evidence

Many of Doron's publications focus on the subject of Bible and archaeology. This is also the subject of the courses he lectures in the Hebrew University. Dr. Ben-Ami is often invited to give lectures on this subject in different institutes, both in Israel and elsewhere.

Dr. Ben-Ami is behind the analysis and final publication of major archaeological excavations such as the City of David (Jerusalem), Tel Hazor (The Hula Valley) and Tel Joqne'am (Jezreel Valley).
